Information in a nutshell

Villa K is an important architectural work of Slovak functionalism. In 1934, the villa was designed for Fritz and Etela Kollmann by architect Oskar Singer, who strongly contributed to the development of interwar architecture in Nitra. The house is unique thanks to its aerodynamic design and it is a national cultural landmark. The significance of Villa K goes beyond the region thanks because its interiors were documented on photographs by a leading photographer of modern architecture Rudolf Sandal and presented also presented in expert magazines at that time, e.g., German magazine Forum in 1938.

Project description

The project represents a comprehensive monumental restoration of Villa K, a prominent functionalist monument of the city of Nitra. The author of the architectural project of the villa is an important Slovak architect Oskar Singer. The project will restore the facades and interiors, modernize networks, as well as revitalize the near vicinity of the monument. The aim of the comprehensive renovation is primarily to restore the villa to its original appearance and to define a new function to the interiors. The ground floor will serve as a cultural community space that will be accessible to the public as a platform for discussions, cultural, artistic performances, and other events. The first floor will be used mainly as a museum part. Another part of the building will be used as occasional empirical accommodation for guests who appreciate the authenticity of the renovated space.
